The Most Expensive Thing a Man can Own Is a Closed Mind

Remember when everyone was hyped about the dvd called 'The Secret'? The whole concept was based on the laws of attraction and focusing on what you want and the universe will somehow direct it to you. Well I'm a firm believer of the opposite as well. What I mean is, if you don't focus on it, you won't receive it either. Better yet, if you won't receive it or are unwilling, it CANNOT come to you. When we don't get the expected results in our business, sometimes we look externally first to fix the issue or place blame when we actually should start looking in the mirror. Our subconscious is VERY powerful. We may say we desire something but if our inner thoughts are not aligned with our outer actions, we are just fooling ourselves. Our results are effected by what we believe. It is vitally important to be in control of our thoughts and keep an open mind. My mentor once told me, the most expensive thing a man can own, is a closed mind. Napoleon Hill elaborated on this in Think and Grow Rich, the foundation book for all personal development.

Embracing Change

A lot of times we resist change because we associate change with pain and our natural tendency is to avoid pain. Many times the change could be for our own good but because the unknown makes us uncomfortable, we choose to follow the familiar, instead of breaking old habits or taking the road less traveled. Change doesn't always have to be external. Most of the time we experience the most life altering changes when they are made from within by re framing how we view something or changing our philosophies. One of my mentors suggested that I welcome change as an opportunity to succeed again. That philosophy has turned fear and doubt into anticipation and excitement.

Irrefutable Law of Leadership

"The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" was one of the most eye-opening books I have ever read. It reminded me of the importance of always growing. When we grow plants, we don't ask, "how tall will it grow?". The reason for this is because we EXPECT them to grow as much as they possibly can. Humans are the only species who routinely choose to under achieve rather than grow to our maximum potential. The "Law of the Lid" states how a leader can not lead past his or her leadership 'lid'. That's why it is VITALLY important that we remain in a state of constant growth. To remain in balance, this growth should be mental, physical and spiritual. How we choose to pursue our growth is totally our choice. But we MUST grow, especially if we are leaders. If we don't grow, we have, in fact by default, made a decision to do the opposite.
